Water Supply and Sewerage Design: 9-Storey Building
Detailed water supply, sanitary sewerage and stormwater design for a nine-storey building, coordinated in 2D and 3D in ArchiCAD.

The challenge
A nine-storey building, including the ground floor and basement, needed a complete water supply, sanitary sewerage and stormwater drainage design that would perform hydraulically, be straightforward to install, and not inflate construction cost through oversizing.
Our approach
- •Developed the water, sanitary and stormwater systems together in ArchiCAD so the 2D layouts and 3D coordination came from a single model, rather than separately drafted packages that would clash on site.
- •Ran hydraulic calculations for all three systems and sized pipes from the actual design flows, then used those results to trim material where it was not earning its cost.
- •Issued municipal submission drawings, a bill of quantities and construction details so the package could be approved and built from without further interpretation.
Scope of work
- •Water supply system design
- •Sanitary sewerage system design
- •Stormwater drainage system design
- •Hydraulic calculations for water supply, sanitary sewerage and stormwater drainage
- •Pipe sizing and flow calculations
- •2D and 3D technical design in ArchiCAD
- •Detailed technical drawings and installation layouts
- •Design optimisation to reduce unnecessary construction and material costs
- •Bill of quantities and material specifications
- •Technical documentation for municipal submission and approval
- •Construction details for on-site execution
Outcome
- •A coordinated 2D/3D package covering water supply, sanitary sewerage and stormwater, with hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, quantities and construction details in one set.
- •Design completed in 7 days, ready for municipal submission and site installation.
