Fire protection water systems live or die by the same thing every other hydraulic network does: whether the calculation behind them actually holds up. We design sprinkler and fire main networks that are hydraulically verified, not just laid out to look right on a drawing.

A sprinkler system that looks complete on a 2D layout can still fail its hydraulic calculation once real pipe friction, elevation change, and required discharge density are worked through. We design fire protection and sprinkler networks the same way we approach any pressurised water system: model it, size it against the governing design criteria, then draw it.

This covers new-build sprinkler and fire main design, hydraulic calculation and verification of systems designed by others, and coordination with the wider water supply and building services design so fire protection pipework does not clash with everything else running through the same risers and ceiling voids.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you design the sprinkler system itself, or just calculate one already laid out?

Both. We design sprinkler and fire main systems from scratch, and we also take on standalone hydraulic calculation and verification of a layout someone else has already produced.

Can fire protection design be coordinated with our water supply and drainage design in the same model?

Yes, this is a common reason clients bring fire protection design to us specifically: it sits in the same 3D model as the water supply and sewerage design, so clashes between risers, pipe runs and ceiling voids are caught before construction rather than on site.

What determines whether a sprinkler design is adequate?

The hydraulic calculation: whether the network delivers the required discharge density and duration at the hydraulically most demanding point, under the flow and pressure actually available from the water supply, not just whether the pipe layout looks reasonable on paper.

Do you size the water supply, tanks and pumps for a fire protection system as well?

Yes, water supply adequacy, including storage tank and pump sizing where the incoming supply cannot meet fire demand alone, is assessed as part of the same hydraulic model as the sprinkler and fire main design.
