Water Supply and Sewerage Design: Ground Floor + First Floor House
Water supply, sanitary sewerage and stormwater design for a ground-floor plus first-floor house, coordinated in 2D and 3D in ArchiCAD in four days.

The challenge
A two-storey house needed a complete water supply, sanitary sewerage and stormwater package that would work on a small residential plot: reliable pressure at every tap, gravity drainage that could actually be built, and pipe sizes that did not waste money on a building of this scale.
Our approach
- •Modelled cold and hot water, sanitary stacks and stormwater together in ArchiCAD so the boiler, floor layouts and site discharge came from a single coordinated model.
- •Calculated design flows and sized every pipe from those flows, then trimmed diameters and run lengths where a smaller, shorter layout would still meet residual pressure and self-cleansing velocity.
- •Issued installation plans, construction details and a bill of quantities so the contractor could price and build from the same set.
Scope of work
- •Water supply system design
- •Sanitary and stormwater sewerage design
- •Hydraulic calculations
- •Calculation of flow rates and pipe diameters
- •2D and 3D technical design in ArchiCAD
- •Technical details and installation plans
- •Bill of quantities and material specifications
- •Project optimisation to reduce construction costs
Outcome
- •A coordinated 2D/3D package covering water, sanitary and stormwater for the house, from incoming supply and boiler through both floors to site discharge.
- •Pipes sized from calculated flows rather than rules of thumb, keeping material use in proportion to a two-storey house.
- •Design completed in 4 days, ready for pricing and installation on site.
